Alternator Tidy










During the course of the rebuild, i have been attending to variuos smaller jobs, one was to do a light refurb to the engine bay, and focused on the alternator, shown below








Once removed, i could strip down to inspect it, it was known to be working, so i didnt fully disassemble it, only removing the pulley from the shaft,



I could then treat it as a going concern, rubbing down with a drill mounted wire brush, and killing rust with Hammerite Silver and Gold spray, and im happy with the finished part, how long it will serve me ive yet to find out, see below,, ps not recommended parts for a kitchen area!

Rear Spring Hanger Repairs



The car failed its MOT in 2004, one of the main points being the corrosion on the front and rear spring hangers, both sides.

I ordered up the rear spring hanger repair panel from MGBhive, and the closing plate which removed from the above picture, and using a template from the cut away part, i welded in the repair, shown below,





I dressed the area with rust cure, then red oxided the area for rust proofing, and drilled the closing plate at regular intervals with a 6mm drill, to allow plug welding with my MIG welder, a technique which replicates a spot welder, and also seam welded along the edges to finish.

MG REAR TAILGATE REPAIR


I am using parts of a green MG i managed to get my hands on in Govan, and cut out a couple of repair panels, here i have cut out a section to repair serious rust to the drain channel and section, greatly reducing the amount of work and cost of panels, please view,,,,













I removed the top skin of the roof to allow welding of the internal rail, and then it takes minmum welding to reinstate the roof skin,,, by careful use of templates cut from cereal boxes this allowed me very neat fit of my repair panel,, shown below from inside the car,,,















MG BGT in Glasgow, Steve

Hi to all ,

My name is Steve and i bought a rather nice MG BGT in Vermillion off Ebay 2 or so years ago for £300.00 ,

I dreamed off doing the odd job to get it mot'd and fix it as i go, but certian areas are too far gone structurally, so i have commenced a full restoration, and will be posting my efforts on this site, hopefully to inspire other newbies, and also myself, as it gets all rather daunting when you uncover more rust laden drama as you go,,,
